Seasonal Culinary Diversity

fullsizeoutput_3bd.jpeg

This represents a late-June Full-share. Photographed by CSA Member Holly Leo, who said upon receiving her share "it was like opening a painting in a box."

Few things can be more disappointing than buying into a CSA share and getting Kale every week from early-June to early-October. We know, it’s happened to us, and to others we’ve talked to. Not that Kale isn’t good, and good for you too, but seasonal culinary diversity should be part and parcel of anyone’s menu.

Because we also appreciate weekly diversity in our kitchen, we aim to provide 8-10 different vegetables in your Crop-box every week. We take pride in selecting  and growing nearly 50 varieties of vegetables, along with herbs and melons. That being said, and because different crops favor varying climatic growing conditions, the early season shares in June will naturally contain more greens and will likely be smaller than those in the mid to late season.

Crop-Box Content

The content of each week's Crop-box is determined by harvesting crops at peak ripeness from the gardens, in addition to seasonal surplus and/or loss of certain crops throughout the growing season, so each box is somewhat of a surprise each week. You may also find unusual produce in your delivery. Never fear, we will do our best to provide you with ideas, recipes and Facebook content to turn unknown produce into seasonal culinary delights that you'll come to look forward to. Regardless of the produce included in your Crop-box, we present it to you in-season, freshly picked, cleaned and ready to eat.

Size and Cost

Our farm offers two levels of membership:

Full-share | meets the needs of 2-4 people | 8-10 items weekly | $642.00/14 weeks

1/2 share | meets the needs of 1-2 people | 5-6 items weekly | $375.00/14 weeks

If you happen to be veggie weirdos like us, it’s important to understand that your unique vegetable needs may not be completely met by the contents of your box. If you would like more of a certain variety, or something that wasn't in your box you're always welcome to purchase additional quantities on the online store or at the farm. Please let us know how we can meet your preferences and if you have any food allergies we need to be aware of.

Delivery and pick-up days are highly important. We harvest specifically in relation to these designations to ensure that your weekly share contains the highest quality produce. If you're unable to pick-up at your pre-selected time and place, please let us know in advance. Our weekly deliveries take place throughout the season at the following locations and times:

11:30AM-12:30PM

St. Joseph/Benton Harbor, MI | The Collective

Members are also welcome to pick-up at the farm on Fridays between the hours of 2:30-6:30pm, or Sundays 10AM-5PM. Please let us know at registration which of the 4 options you prefer.

We understand that summer is a busy time and you may not be able to pick up your share. We advise you select a family member or friend to pick-up your box. A box missed is a box lost, your share will be donated to a local charity. No refunds will be issued for unclaimed boxes.

Communication

Keeping in contact with us over the season is important. CSA members are encouraged to participate in on-farm/members only activities and events in the gardens to foster a deeper appreciation for the abundance of nature, and to become more directly acquainted with where, how, and who grows their produce. In previous seasons we've hosted cooking demos/tastings at the farm on the wood-stove, it is usually a highlight for quite a few of our members. Stay tuned for more details. If you should have questions at any time throughout the season, please e-mail us at christopher.dicicco@gmail.com, or text me at: 269.277.9451
